Frequently Asked Questions
How often does the Cable Car run? The Cable Car runs minimum every half hour, but continuously when the number of guests increases. Our opening hours during the summer period (1.6 – 31.7) are 10:00-01:00, and during the winter period 10:00-23:00.
How many minutes take the ride up to mount Storsteinen? It takes approximately 4 minutes.
How many passengers does each Cable Car take? Each Cable Car takes normally 22-25 passengers.
Can I bring a stroller? Yes, you can. A stroller is free of charge in the Cable Car.
Is it suitable for wheelchair users? Yes, both the viewpoint and Fjellstua Café are wheelchair accessible. One of our gondolas has wheelchair entrance, on the north side of the ground station building. A companion is necessary, to buy tickets at the main entrance. (tickets can be purchased online through www.visittromso.no )
Can I bring a dog in the Cable Car? Yes, you can. Large dogs cost NOK 80 return ticket. If you want to enter the restaurant, the dog should be left outside. For the sake of guests and grazing animals, we ask that the dog be kept on a lead (mandatory between 1. April and 15. October).
Can I bring a Bicycle? Yes, you can. It costs NOK 150 extra.
Do you have parking places? We have a large parking area at the ground station. Remember to pay for the parking at the automat or via a mobile app.
Can tickets be purchased online? Yes, tickets can be purchased through www.visittromso.no. NB: if you have this online ticket and you have to cancel or change it, you must contact Visit Tromsø/ the Tourist Office.
Can I pay with VIPPS? VIPPS is accepted as payment in the Fjellstua Café, but not in our ticket office at ground station.
Can I pay with credit card? We accept Bankaxcept cards, Mastercards and VISA. We do not accept American Express and Diners.
Do you offer annual passes? No, we don’t. But we recommend the multi-trip cards of NOK 1400 for 10 return trips.
What can we do when we reach the top? At the top we have a café that offers various hot and cold drinks, lunch and dinner dishes, and different snacks. From the view point you will have a wonderful view of Tromsø and the surrounding area. There are many hiking possibilities from Fjellstua.
What do I do if I have lost something at the mountain? Contact our staff at Fjellstua Café or at ground station. We will do our best to help you.
Where do I find the Sherpa Steps? The Sherpa Steps consists of approximately 1300 stone steps. It starts in Fløyvegen and ends at Fjellstua, 421 meters above sea level.
Are the Sherpa Steps open all year? Yes, it is open for everybody all year around. During winter period its mostly covered with snow and ice, and it is recommended to use good shoes and spikes.
